Post Party Blues? Superdrug Sensitive Deep Cleaning Mask To The Rescue!

20121209-201259.jpg

After a hiatus of 2 months I’m back and I’ve found a little treat for the morning after the night before!!!!

This little beauty is a lovely mild, creamy mud mask that will give your skin the pick me up you need after a night on the tiles!

It does leave the skin feeling slightly tight but a good moisturiser will soon alleviate this.

There is no real scent and my skin didn’t get blotchy or itchy! It felt lovely against my skin and dried well without pulling too much.

Overall this was lovely and my skin felt very smooth and clean. Definitely a must for the morning after the night before!

Hope you’ve had a wonderful Christmas and wishing you a FAB New Year!!!

It’s Sunday Night I’ve Got Work In The Morning It’s Time For A Facemask & Naughty Dessert!!!

20120923-211918.jpg

I went out last night and though I was in before my car turned back into a pumpkin I couldn’t get to sleep as I’d drunk too much coke ggrrrrr! It’s like speed to me and keeps me awake, no red bull or recreational drugs needed here just good old coke!

So today I’m feeling a bit bleurgh and grrrrr and I’m sure the little darlings realised as they’ve driven me nuts all day ☺ and to top it all off I set the oven on fire and couldn’t get it out fast enough so had to be rescued by hubby who sorted it, mortified so much for the capable modern woman!

As a result I was in dire need of some me time and a good soak. It seems to be getting to be a habit now of mine to have a face mask on a Sunday night and tonight I had an extremely naughty dessert to go with it!

Anyway, on to the face pack! The one I used tonight is the Superdrug Detoxifying Dead Sea Mineral Maskwhich is recommended for normal to oily skin. I am neither of these but I love face masks that are actually clay like and this is one of them…

20120923-212645.jpg

As you can see from the pic this is a lovely thick clay like consistency and feels lovely when rubbed over the skin. The only drawback to this kind of mask is it’s a bit of a bugger to get off ☺!

The first thing that hit me was the smell of lavender it is strong and so lovely, lavender is such an amazing plant and is used a lot in relaxation as the fragrance has such a calming affect. I used to have an Avon spray for my pillow (before I found out they weren’t cruelty free), that I used all the time, bliss. As you can imagine I was in heaven!

This is another winner from Superdrug and left my skin feeling ok which is surprising as I thought it would dry it out!

But how can I forget! What about the extremely naughty, sweet and yummy dessert I had? Well, how about Mint Aero Balls in custard, you know you’re gonna have to try it, looks a bit urgh but absolutely divine (my new fave word). Go on give in to the yummyness xx

AromaVille Hops Hemp Honey Natural palm-free shampoo bar

Picture reproduced with kind permission from Valeria at AromaVille

My sister has been going “natural” for a few years now. She researches everything and will only buy natural products. We were talking the other day and I mentioned that I had discovered some lovely looking shampoo bars on Etsy and wondered if she’d like to try it. After a lot of scouring of ingredients and umming and aaaahhhing we stumbled upon AromaVille who are based in High Wycombe (UK).

We were really impressed with the quality, range and ingredients! I ordered the Hops Hemp Honey palm free shampoo bar as I liked the combination of ingredients. My sister ordered the Rosemary Nettle Aloe Vera palm free shampoo bar.

The price of these bars was really reasonable £3.50 each plus £2.70 postage. They arrived beautifully wrapped and smelt divine!

I’ve been hesitant to use a shampoo bar before as I’ve always figured you don’t get a lot for your money but a lot of makers claim they can last 1-2 months so this is on a par with bottled shampoos. Of course it does depend how often you shampoo and how long/thick your hair is or if you live in a hard or soft water area!!

The first time I used this I wasn’t too sure what to do so I made sure my hair was really wet and rubbed it into my hair, I then massaged it in further as I would with a normal shampoo. I was surprised at how well this mixed into my hair as, usually, I find the first wash doesn’t seem to sink in and I have to do a second! The smell of this shampoo is gorgeous and reminds me of one that my mother used on us as kids. It also lingers a lot more than any other shampoo I’ve used and I continued to get lovely whiffs all through the day even after using a conditioner!

My hair felt so clean and the shampoo washed out really well which was a concern as I live in a soft water area. I definitely needed a conditioner with this (mainly due to my hair being dyed!), but the differences in the feeling of residue was amazing. I really had to work to get rid of the conditioner and I hadn’t used as much whereas the shampoo washed out quickly and didn’t feel heavy at all.

I absolutely love this product and I’m really pleased I tried it. The great news is they ship all over the place 🙂 and a number of their products are vegan!!!

I also got a shave bar which I’ll review soon.

Yes You Can Be Cruelty Free On A Budget!!!

So, you can’t have missed the fact that we are in a pretty grim recession at the mo and in the little old UK we’re in what is comically called a ‘double dip’ recession, I have to say that there is nothing funny about a recession and giving it a fancy name doesn’t help those who are struggling!
Anyway, as times are grim and most of us are on very tight budgets I thought I’d do some top tips on being cruelty free on a budget, because yes, you can be cruelty free even when money is tight! So here, in no particular order is my list of top tips for feeling wonderful even when life is throwing you a curve ball!!

1. Work out how much you can afford to spend This might seem obvious but it is important to know how much you have so you can decide what price range you can look at.
2. Decide what products you use and how often This may seem like a faff but it’s worth doing as you may find that the products you use less often last a lot longer and don’t need to be purchased as regularly. This means you may be able to get the nicer product as you can budget for when you run out! It will also give you an idea of when you’re more expensive months may be.
3. Shop around Check out the Internet and the high street shops. Look for offers, some brands/shops are predictable about when they do offers so you can bulk buy around them! I quite often buy a few months worth of something when it’s on buy one get one free as bottled lotions etc have really long shelf lives!!!!
4. Try before you buy! A lot of companies will let you buy samples of their products, this is a great way of making sure a product suits you as there is nothing more frustrating than realising when you get a moisturiser etc that you’re allergic or it gives you an outbreak out of spots!!!
5. The Internet is your friend Research, research and research some more! The Internet is the place for bargains, you can check what your local store has on offer before you go, you can shop around for your favourite products and you can look for new products. The Internet highway is the place to hunt out your bargains and you can do it from the comfort of your own home!
6. Cut the top off that tube!!! So you think that tube of hand cream is empty??? Well think again! If you carefully cut the top off you will find lots of product left in there, if it’s a squeezy tube I tend to cut it do I can still push it back over the bottom, otherwise mark a lid out of foil or something similar. Just keep an eye on the product to make sure it doesn’t “go off”! I’ve had tubes last an extra week doing this so it’s well worth a try!
7. Don’t use too much This is obvious I know but it’s worth checking you’re using the right amount as it’s a waste otherwise and we don’t like waste when budgeting 😊
8. Use BUAV etc sites These will give you details of which product ranges are cruelty free and will often include links to websites.
9. Go to your local farmers market if you have one near you use it, there are often local farmers / residents selling natural beauty products at reasonable prices and the person who made it is there to answer all your questions!
10. Have fun! Don’t get too hung up on price there are loads of companies out there doing cruelty free beauty products at great prices and they’re fun to discover!!!!

Budgeting is a pain but worth it and just think what there is out there to discover if you’re looking for new, fab treats!

It’s so cool Cucumber Cooling Clay Mask

20120820-193434.jpg

So after my wonderful facial at the spa break, that is now a distant memory, I thought I’d treat myself to some face masks to try and relive a little bit of that wonderful pampering!
As usual I went to old faithful Superdrug as a friend had told me their face masks were on offer. The masks are 99p each or 4 for the price of 3 at the moment!!!! The choice is really good and covers all skin types. As these are Superdrug’s own they are cruelty free endorsed by the BUAV!
I brought 4 but the one I tried tonight was the cucumber cooling clay mask which is “ideal for sensitive skin”. It’s easy to put on and is very creamy and thick, my hubby helped me get it out of the sachet so I had it all and there is more than enough to cover your face. It warmed up at first and then dried, my very funny (not) husband kept trying to make me laugh so it would crack ha ha! After 15 mins I washed it off and my skin felt beautiful, it felt soft, wasn’t dry and didn’t feel tight at all. I love this mask and am feeling like I will definitely add a face mask to my weekly routine, I ❤ my soft skin, this is FAB!!!!
Below is a rather fetching picture of me with it on! :s

I Got a Natural High – Gentle Exfoliating Face Scrub by Superdrug

Whilst indulging in a new MUA eyeshadow I also came across this little beauty in Superdrug.  It’s £2.49 at the mo which is half price… come on!!!!  And not only is it cruelty free it’s also Vegetarian aaannnnddddd VEGAN!  Hurrah!!!!  The link to it is here.

The scrub has organic Apricot Kernel Oil, for Vit B, and softening, Apricot Seed and Walnut Shell which is the exfoliator and Sweet Almond Oil which is a fantastic moisturiser and skin softener.  It really does sound good enough to eat, tho don’t it’ll taste pretty grim :S

I used this in the shower earlier and it was really good.  It is very sweet-smelling, which could be a little overpowering for some but I liked, and it’s lovely and thick.  It was easy to massage into my face and the seeds/shells weren’t too harsh on my sensitive skin.  I would suggest caution, as with all exfoliating scrubs, as overzealous scrubbing of even the most gentle of these on the face could lead to very sore skin and red patches!  The scrub rinsed off easily and left my face with that really clean, tight feeling.  I followed it with a gentle soap and really felt like all the build up from the day/week was gone!  Lovely!!!!

Another word of caution, steer clear if you have any nut allergies!

This is not a product that I’d recommend using every day, once a week should be enough, unless you’re doing a lot of gruelling tasks that leave you with a build up of yuck on your face!  Over exfoliating can lead to break outs, soreness, sensitivity and unbalanced skin so don’t go too mad 🙂

This is definitely going to have a place in my bathroom, even at full price it’s a bargain and will last for agessssssssssssssss!

Superdrug is definitely on my ‘Love Love Love’ list as a top place to shop, dirt cheap and cruelty free, amazing!

MUA Rocks \m/ No 9 Pearl Eyeshadow Single

Image

As I write this I am sitting looking out of the window of the Palacel Hotel in Buxton (UK) having a Spa Break with a very good friend!  After 2 days of pampering and relaxation I am in heaven!  Whilst here we had a wander into this historic town and I picked up yet another MUA product, I have so many now I will be able to blog for about a month!!

This shade is no9 and is a pearlescent eyeshadow.  It is a rich purple colour with undertones of blue and pink.  The pictures do not do it any justice but it is amazing and, as with all MUA, products it has a high pigment so a little goes a long, long way!  I can see why make up artists rate these products and love them.  It is easy to apply and looks amazing, I reckon this would suit most skin types though you may want to tone it down on really pale skin.  It gives smokey eyes an amazing sheen and can tone down the black if you find it a bit too much for your eyes.  It’s a FAB rocky colour that would look amazing when bouncing round clubs/gigs or living it up at Tribal et al.

Yet another Gold Star for MUA as this cost £1, yes a nugget!!!  I am totally in love with MUA and will be doing a lot of adding to my collection.  The amazing colours that go from understated to vibrant are amazing and you can get everything from Bronzer to Primer from them for under £5!

Check out their website here, they are also exclusively available at Superdrug online and instore.  If you go to the MUA website there is a list of the Superdrug stores that stock them.
