Yummy Photo of Me in the Mask

Another day another face mask and this time it’s a really lovely apricot one!

I love the Superdrug face masks they’re such good value for money and I’m working my way through the whole range. You can find it here and it includes some for men, though I’d argue anyone could use any of them!

So, this is the Apricot Exfoliating Mask and I have to say it’s one of my faves so far! It feels lovely on the skin and the smell is so lovely!!!

My skin looked lovely and clear after and felt really clean, it didn’t feel too taut or dry and my moisturiser went on well.

For 99p this is well worth every penny. I have to be careful with scented products as my skin can be über sensitive and I was very pleased with this as I didn’t even get a tingle!

I will definitely be buying this one again as it really is lovely! Go treat yourself ☺ today xx

Post Party Blues? Superdrug Sensitive Deep Cleaning Mask To The Rescue!

20121209-201259.jpg

After a hiatus of 2 months I’m back and I’ve found a little treat for the morning after the night before!!!!

This little beauty is a lovely mild, creamy mud mask that will give your skin the pick me up you need after a night on the tiles!

It does leave the skin feeling slightly tight but a good moisturiser will soon alleviate this.

There is no real scent and my skin didn’t get blotchy or itchy! It felt lovely against my skin and dried well without pulling too much.

Overall this was lovely and my skin felt very smooth and clean. Definitely a must for the morning after the night before!

Hope you’ve had a wonderful Christmas and wishing you a FAB New Year!!!

Vintage Vixen with MUA prt 1 – It’s All About the Lips Baby!!!

20120926-193224.jpg

I’ve been in love with Vintage and eccentric clothing and looks since I was young. My Dad was a sailor and I used to wear one of his cast off uniform jackets everywhere, I loved that jacket sooooo much! I loved old clothes and unusual clothes and much of my shopping was, and still is, done off the high street in second hand shops and army surplus stores!

Recently vintage has become very trendy and the pinup girl / rockabilly look in particular is very popular! As I tend towards that sort of look I thought I’d do a couple of posts on achieving it with my favourite budget brand MUA.

This first post is all about the lips. I ❤ lipstick so much and to really achieve that vixen look it’s gotta be red every time! This can be a very difficult colour to wear so here are my 3 top tips for getting it right:

1. Use a lip liner! This will help to stop the lipstick from bleeding and will also help you to get it right (believe me it helps :))

2. Use a lip brush! This will help you to get definition and make application easier. I find it almost impossible to apply red lipstick without a brush (too clumsy!)

3. Blot, Blot, Blot! This may sound obvious but it is essential with dark lipsticks to help them stay put. It’s also a good idea to blot between layers if you’re going for a really deep colour.

First up is lip liner, MUA do a brilliant one called Red Drama which, if blended in will go with all red lipsticks (I used it in the picture above). To top it off this has a sharpener in the lid!

MUA do 2 amazing lipsticks, both work well with the lip liner and both have an amazing vintage look about them.

To achieve the perfect pout follow these steps:

1. Line your lips to get the shape you desire. Top tip make sure the liner is sharp as definition is easier to achieve! If you want you can use this as a base for your lipstick and fill your lips in with it!

2. Carefully fill in the lips remembering to make sure the liner is blended well. It looks very odd when the liner is obvious! If you can get hold of a lip brush that has a lid this is best as you can take it with you for touch ups. I have one which uses the lid to push the brush into so it’s full length when you use it, very handy!

3. Blot and refill you lips, I normally do this once or twice but it’s entirely up to you what your preference is here. Make sure to keep some tissue in your purse for touch ups later.

Simples as the dodgy meerkat says ☺

These are beautiful shades of red and will set off any outfit but particularly a pretty swing/Audrey Hepburn dress!

They fulfil any Vixen’s need to look drop dead gorgeous with a killer pout and I wear them regularly. They really do have staying power and I’ve only needed to reapply a couple of times during a night out depending on how much I drink etc. For £1 each they’re bargainous!

Next time Vixen Eyes!

It’s Sunday Night I’ve Got Work In The Morning It’s Time For A Facemask & Naughty Dessert!!!

20120923-211918.jpg

I went out last night and though I was in before my car turned back into a pumpkin I couldn’t get to sleep as I’d drunk too much coke ggrrrrr! It’s like speed to me and keeps me awake, no red bull or recreational drugs needed here just good old coke!

So today I’m feeling a bit bleurgh and grrrrr and I’m sure the little darlings realised as they’ve driven me nuts all day ☺ and to top it all off I set the oven on fire and couldn’t get it out fast enough so had to be rescued by hubby who sorted it, mortified so much for the capable modern woman!

As a result I was in dire need of some me time and a good soak. It seems to be getting to be a habit now of mine to have a face mask on a Sunday night and tonight I had an extremely naughty dessert to go with it!

Anyway, on to the face pack! The one I used tonight is the Superdrug Detoxifying Dead Sea Mineral Maskwhich is recommended for normal to oily skin. I am neither of these but I love face masks that are actually clay like and this is one of them…

20120923-212645.jpg

As you can see from the pic this is a lovely thick clay like consistency and feels lovely when rubbed over the skin. The only drawback to this kind of mask is it’s a bit of a bugger to get off ☺!

The first thing that hit me was the smell of lavender it is strong and so lovely, lavender is such an amazing plant and is used a lot in relaxation as the fragrance has such a calming affect. I used to have an Avon spray for my pillow (before I found out they weren’t cruelty free), that I used all the time, bliss. As you can imagine I was in heaven!

This is another winner from Superdrug and left my skin feeling ok which is surprising as I thought it would dry it out!

But how can I forget! What about the extremely naughty, sweet and yummy dessert I had? Well, how about Mint Aero Balls in custard, you know you’re gonna have to try it, looks a bit urgh but absolutely divine (my new fave word). Go on give in to the yummyness xx

Have a fabulous week, peace and love

All Shined Out

20120912-132128.jpg

On Saturday night I did the Manchester Shine half marathon (13.l miles) walk for Cancer Research, as you can imagine I was pretty pooped on Sunday!!!! It was fantastic fun and there’s still time to enter the London event if you fancy it!

As a little treat to myself on Sunday and to try and wake myself up I thought I’d try the Exfoliating Ice Blast Gel Maskfrom Superdrug. It’s recommended for all skin types and has spearmint oil to really refresh!

The mask is a blue colour with very fine Dead Sea Salt Crystals to exfoliate. As the crystals are so fine it didn’t irritate my sensitive skin and I wasn’t too concerned I’d inadvertently over scrub! The instructions say to gently rub into a clean, cleansed, dry face and leave for 10-15 mins.

When I squeezed the mask onto my hand it didn’t hit me with a minty smell which disappointed me at first but once I put it on my face I was glad it hadn’t! The spearmint was lovely and subtle and really helped to open up my nose and airways, it was a bit like going into the Steam Room at the gym when they put menthol through. My skin didn’t feel cold with the mask on but once I washed it off my skin felt so fresh and the water drying on my face kept giving me a fresh boost, it was lovely 🙂

I really liked this mask and it really did make me feel less zombie more human afterwards! I highly recommend it as a pick-me-up after a night out or an event like Shine as it really does make you feel better and your skin feels lovely!

Below I include a rather fetching (not) picture of me at Shine, enjoy…

I Got a Natural High – Gentle Exfoliating Face Scrub by Superdrug

Whilst indulging in a new MUA eyeshadow I also came across this little beauty in Superdrug.  It’s £2.49 at the mo which is half price… come on!!!!  And not only is it cruelty free it’s also Vegetarian aaannnnddddd VEGAN!  Hurrah!!!!  The link to it is here.

The scrub has organic Apricot Kernel Oil, for Vit B, and softening, Apricot Seed and Walnut Shell which is the exfoliator and Sweet Almond Oil which is a fantastic moisturiser and skin softener.  It really does sound good enough to eat, tho don’t it’ll taste pretty grim :S

I used this in the shower earlier and it was really good.  It is very sweet-smelling, which could be a little overpowering for some but I liked, and it’s lovely and thick.  It was easy to massage into my face and the seeds/shells weren’t too harsh on my sensitive skin.  I would suggest caution, as with all exfoliating scrubs, as overzealous scrubbing of even the most gentle of these on the face could lead to very sore skin and red patches!  The scrub rinsed off easily and left my face with that really clean, tight feeling.  I followed it with a gentle soap and really felt like all the build up from the day/week was gone!  Lovely!!!!

Another word of caution, steer clear if you have any nut allergies!

This is not a product that I’d recommend using every day, once a week should be enough, unless you’re doing a lot of gruelling tasks that leave you with a build up of yuck on your face!  Over exfoliating can lead to break outs, soreness, sensitivity and unbalanced skin so don’t go too mad 🙂

This is definitely going to have a place in my bathroom, even at full price it’s a bargain and will last for agessssssssssssssss!

Superdrug is definitely on my ‘Love Love Love’ list as a top place to shop, dirt cheap and cruelty free, amazing!

MUA Rocks \m/ No 9 Pearl Eyeshadow Single

Image

As I write this I am sitting looking out of the window of the Palacel Hotel in Buxton (UK) having a Spa Break with a very good friend!  After 2 days of pampering and relaxation I am in heaven!  Whilst here we had a wander into this historic town and I picked up yet another MUA product, I have so many now I will be able to blog for about a month!!

This shade is no9 and is a pearlescent eyeshadow.  It is a rich purple colour with undertones of blue and pink.  The pictures do not do it any justice but it is amazing and, as with all MUA, products it has a high pigment so a little goes a long, long way!  I can see why make up artists rate these products and love them.  It is easy to apply and looks amazing, I reckon this would suit most skin types though you may want to tone it down on really pale skin.  It gives smokey eyes an amazing sheen and can tone down the black if you find it a bit too much for your eyes.  It’s a FAB rocky colour that would look amazing when bouncing round clubs/gigs or living it up at Tribal et al.

Yet another Gold Star for MUA as this cost £1, yes a nugget!!!  I am totally in love with MUA and will be doing a lot of adding to my collection.  The amazing colours that go from understated to vibrant are amazing and you can get everything from Bronzer to Primer from them for under £5!

Check out their website here, they are also exclusively available at Superdrug online and instore.  If you go to the MUA website there is a list of the Superdrug stores that stock them.
